<sup>C'est en réalisant qu'en 2014, faire des recherches sur le web sur les femmes artistes du 20e siècle était une tâche fastidieuse en raison des informations manquantes et des classifications pêle-mêle, que j'ai demandé à des amies de partout dans le monde de me partager leurs favorites.

En étudiant ces femmes artistes, j'ai observé que sur les portraits officiels la majorité d'entre elles présentaient leurs mains à la caméra. Cette singularité se démarquait des photos d'hommes artistes aux mêmes statuts et périodes, qui eux avaient plutôt les mains dans les poches ou derrière le dos.

La série “Famous Women Artists” a donc été produite suite à la découverte de ce détail singulier. Sans m'interroger sur la valeur anthropologique de cette découverte, j'ai cherché des portraits de femmes artistes célèbres ayant ce trait particulier et j'ai demandé à un modèle de faire la reconstruction de la pose.

Les femmes artistes sélectionnées sont: Ewa Partum, Georgia O’Keefe, Kazuo Onho, Louise Bourgeois et Valie Export.</sup>

<sup>Realizing that in 2014, searching the web for women artists of the 20th century was a tedious task due to missing information and jumbled classifications, I asked friends from around the world to share their favorites with me.

In studying these women artists, I observed that on official portraits the majority of them presented their hands to the camera. This singularity stood out from photos of male artists of the same status and period, who tended to have their hands in their pockets or behind their backs.

The ‘Famous Women Artists’ series was therefore produced following the discovery of this singular detail. Without questioning the anthropological value of this discovery, I looked for portraits of famous women artists with this particular feature and asked a model to reconstruct the pose.
